Mindful Practice and It's Significance
Mindfulness is a personalised, individual experience. It's not just about meditating for 6 to 8 hours a day, but also about being present in the present moment with awareness. Mindfulness is thus clarified as subjective and not tangible and you will get to know about mindfulness through experience only.
Mindfulness is about purposefully setting time aside to build your mindfulness muscle. Hence, mindfulness is paying attention to the present moment in a non-judgemental way and conditioning your ability to focus on 'now', which will build your 'mindfulness muscle'.
The actual work therefore becomes the actual conditioning that comes by you noticing when your thoughts are either back there in the past or your thoughts are ahead of you in the future, and then grabbing hold of both of these and steering them and re-directing them to the present moment. This is where the conditioning part of mindfulness practice comes in through.
The significance of practicing mindfulness is to become in tune with or be better by being able to recognise internal conflict and project it in a productive and healthy direction. Mindful people have greater control over their emotional responses to external circumstances. This mastering of emotions may help you to react to problems with much more resilience and endurance than most of the other people.
As a mindful person, you may also live a healthier life as you practice hearing internal dialogues and thoughts. You will be mindful of your thoughts, then emotions, and steer a better response. You will find yourself grateful for the moments, people, and things you have at the present moment. You will be more aware of the decisions you make and will be able to protect your peace when necessary. You will sleep better and have cognitive improvements leading to improved stress management and cope better with anxiety and depression. Your attention, concentration will improve and you will identify reduced rumination.
Overall, mindfulness will benefit you with emotional intelligence, ability to relax with a greater enthusiasm for life and improved self-esteem.
